About Rain Night Café

Rain Night Café is a free, no-camera virtual coworking café. It is a small independent project, built for people who work better with quiet company nearby: students, remote workers, writers, night owls and people with ADHD who use body doubling.

Why it exists

Most focus tools ask for something first: a camera, a booked slot, an account or a subscription. We wanted the feeling of a café at 2 AM instead. Strangers nearby, each doing their own thing, rain on the window and nobody watching. So the café opens in a browser tab, with no sign-up, no webcam and no microphone.

How it works

  • The Rain Café is free, always. You pick a nickname, appear as an avatar at a shared table and follow a room-wide 45-minute focus / 10-minute break timer.
  • Two shifts a day are fixed times when people sit down to focus together. The café is open the rest of the time too.
  • Café Pass adds two smaller rooms: the Library, for reading, and the Campfire, for quiet conversation. It costs $4.99 a month, or $19.99 a year for the first 50 yearly supporters ($39.99 a year after that). See Café Pass.
  • The café has staff bots in chat. They are openly artificial and labelled “staff”; they never pretend to be people.

What we won’t build

No video, no profiles, no followers, no streaks or leaderboards, and no advertising trackers. Chat is limited on purpose: 140 characters, one message a minute, and messages fade after five minutes. If a feature doesn’t make the room feel quieter or warmer, it doesn’t ship.

The guides

We also write practical guides on studying, focus rhythms, body doubling and background sound. They describe habits and tools, not medical advice. If something in a guide is wrong or out of date, tell us and we’ll fix it.
