Rain sounds

Rain on a café window, playing in one tap. Choose the kind of rain, add a little café murmur or soft jazz if you like, and set it to fade out when you want to sleep.

Which rain to choose

Window rain is soft and close, like rain on the glass beside your desk, and suits reading and writing. Steady rain is fuller and covers more background noise, such as traffic or a busy house. Light drizzle is the quietest, for sleep or a late night. Thunderstorm adds distant thunder, which some people love and others find distracting when they need to think.

Rain for studying

Keep the rain low enough that you stop noticing it after a minute or two. Many people find a steady sound with no words easier to work to than silence or music with lyrics. Adding café murmur at a low level makes it feel like a coffee shop on a rainy afternoon. For a longer session, pair the rain with a pomodoro timer, or read our guide to rain sounds for studying.

Rain for sleep

Choose light drizzle or window rain, turn the café murmur and music off, and set Stop after. The rain fades out over several seconds instead of stopping suddenly. Keep the volume low: rain should sit under your thoughts, not over them.

Frequently asked questions

Are these rain sounds free?

Yes. They play free with no account, no ads and no time limit. Nothing downloads until you press play.

Can I fall asleep to the rain?

Yes. Pick the rain you like, set Stop after to 30 minutes, an hour, 90 minutes or two hours, and the sound fades out slowly at the end so it doesn't wake you. Window rain and light drizzle are the gentlest.

Does the rain keep playing if I switch tabs?

Yes, on computers it keeps playing in a background tab. Some phones pause sound from a web page when the screen locks, so keep the browser open on a phone.

Is there rain with thunder?

Yes. Choose Thunderstorm. The other three choices have no thunder, which most people find easier to work to.

How is this different from Rainy Mood?

Rainy Mood plays one rain track. Here you can choose four kinds of rain, add café murmur and music written for Rain Night Café, and set a fade-out timer. When you want company, the same rain plays in the café, where other people study beside you with no camera.
